Silt fencing is exactly what the phrase means, fencing off the silt. Literally and technically that is what exactly it does. Silt fence is also occasionally referred to as a filter fence. This is an adjunct soil flow control device that can also be used also as a construction material flow device.
This device is necessarily used for controlling and maintaining water quality close to or exactly at the construction sites in order to monitor the quality of water in the streams, rivers, and lakes situated in close proximity. The water quality in these natural water bodies can be controlled with the help of filter fencing by avoiding flow of loose soil into these waters which generally happens.
A classic filter silt fencing fundamentally comprises of a special type fabric filter called as Geotextiles that are strung along a series of either metal stakes or stakes made of wood, usually on a flat surface by the side of a perimeter of the construction premises. The basic job of these fences is not to restrict the silt or loose from flowing away from the site along with the water consequently hampering the water quality of the close by natural water bodies.
There are normally three types of geotextiles. Geotextiles are fabric that permits water to pass through. Three categories are woven, nail punched, and heat bonded. The bottom portion of the geotextile is well entrenched on the downward side in soil to ensure that there is some rigidity in the fencing. This ensures that whatever silt laden water comes deposits the silt on the upward side of the fabric and just the clear water drains. This ensures that the nearby water bodies are not polluted from the silt of the construction sites.
Effectively this innovative technology in construction makes sure that the material used for construction does not flow away from the premises and also the soil present at the construction premises does not spoil the lakes or rivers that are close by.
