A right license is required to fulfill your dream of getting a career in driving. Keep in mind that every country has different kinds of licenses for driving different vehicles. So, don't expect your car driving license to work for you while driving a taxi! Here is a look at some of the careers that involve driving and a little bit of info on what kind of licenses you may require to drive different kinds of commercial vehicles.
If you want to drive a heavy vehicle, you will need a heavy vehicle license. Heavy vehicles can include trucks and trailers. A heavy vehicle license will depend on the type and weight of the commercial vehicle that you will be using.
New Zealand, for example, has four types of licenses for these heavy vehicles. These are classes 2-5 and each class covers a range from medium rigid to heavy combination vehicles. You will also have to go through two stages of getting a license, that is, a learner's license and a full license.
Driving passenger vehicles requires a different kind of endorsement on your driving license. Passenger vehicles involve driving shuttles, taxis, or buses. A current passenger endorsement is required for both small as well as large passenger vehicles. This way the authorities can ensure that the passengers are safe while you are at the wheel.
There are some careers that require the use of trams, traction engines, and forklifts. A different kind of endorsement is required for different vehicles. For example, an F endorsement is required for a forklift and an R endorsement is required for vehicles that operate on rollers. If you carry loads that are heavier than the legal limit, you will need to fulfill additional requirements.
A tow truck requires a current vehicle recovery endorsement. A full New Zealand license is required for the type of vehicle that you want to use in your towing service. These licenses must have been held by you for at least two years. An approved vehicle recovery endorsement course qualification and Class 1 full car driver license are some of the other requirements for driving these vehicles.
Then there are careers that involve driving around substances which are explosive, toxic, infectious, and inflammable. Containers that have held hazardous substances are also included in this. Transporting these dangerous and hazardous goods require a dangerous goods endorsement on your driving license.
