A Day Of Fairy Tale Of A Swedish Princess
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
The world witnessed one of; if not the biggest wedding that was ever celebrated, last June 20th of this year. And it was no other than the crown princess of Sweden, Princess Victoria who tied the knot with long time love Daniel Westling.
The couple was victorious over their detractors and celebrated such victory through marriage, Archbishop Anders Wejryd officiated the wedding. And indeed it was a magnificent victory I agree, as their marriage was marked as the grandest and biggest since after that of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
The enormity of this occasion begins with a two-week festival to celebrate the couple's union coined "Love Stockholm 2010. And whilst the ritual takes place in the cathedral, giant screens in select locations were specially installed for the multitude of crowds to watch the ceremony on the flower ridden streets of Stockholm.
Not all that bad, for a couple that had been going through a lot of criticisms all through their relationship.
Witnesses to the ceremony include Royalties from all around Europe together with Royal guests and dignitaries and they were able to gaze at the couple exchange not only exchange their wedding vows with each other but also a couple of sweet moments while at the altar, including a moment when the Swedish Princess softly brushed the tears off of her husband's cheek just as they finished putting rings on each other.
The ceremony itself was quite unique on its own. The princess pleaded that her father, King Carl to walk her to the altar and in Sweden that seldom happens because of their tradition of equalitarianism, no less to someone of her stature. But that he did; this raised eyebrows among many traditionalists. The couple though, did not make much of this, and still managed to fully appreciate their day. There were private moments within the ceremony between the couple that simply just leads one to believe that they were in love. At one point, the Crown Princess of Sweden even wiped the tears away from her love's face after they exchanged rings, a sight that touched most.
The ceremony was followed by a banquet at Drottningholm Palace with an informal atmosphere. The King gave a short message in English, which had a lighthearted response from the Princess, but one that is heartwarming as well. And in remembering another significant part of the same day, the father of the bride, the king complimented the marriage anniversary to his Queen with a rose a pink one, which trailed his wife to her tears.
The groom, Daniel Westling, now Duke of Vastergotland gave his speech in English as well, opting to put it in memory than on paper. And touching it was. At the end of his speech the cake was wheeled out and cut by the couple as customs dictate. After that, the merrymaking began with the couple's first dance, and followed by a night of dancing.
Following that the cake was brought out and cut by the couple, and that gave the hint of start of the all night dancing wherein even the royalties were in the mood to groove.
The morning after the festivities, the couple left for their honeymoon in an undisclosed location to start what we often hear in fairy tales, their own happy ever after.
