Just before Christmas 2010, Microsoft announced that makers of phones running its new mobile phone operating system had sold 1.5 million handsets since the launch of Windows Phone 7 (WP7) in October.
The figures were "in line with our expectations", according to Microsoft vice president of business and marketing for Windows mobile phones, Achim Berg.
There are several smartphones available that run the WP7 operating system and one that displays the qualities of the new software exceptionally well is the LG Optimus 7.
The Optimus 7 was one of the first handsets to be released upon the autumn unveiling of WP7. The Optimus 7 in conjunction with the WP7 operating system ensured that this new generation of Windows mobile phones are more integrated with the many social networking sites. This immediately made the handset a more preferable option for the many customers who use the social networking features on a more regular basis.
The Optimus 7 also comes with an impressive 1GHz processor, 720p video recording and a high quality 3.8-inch screen. What is particularly impressive with the Optimus 7 handset is its resolution; the depth of colour provided by the WVGA screen is particularly striking. In addition, the screen supports multi-touch input, meaning that it is adaptable to an individual's preferred form of use.
With 512MB of ram as standard, there is plenty of memory available on the Optimus 7 to highlight the finer points of the WP7 operating system. Taking HD quality video is also simple yet effective thanks to the five megapixel camera, and built into the camera are additional features such as LED flash and geo-tagging, which are especially nice touches.
Text messaging is simple using the Optimus 7 threaded viewing system for SMS. Support for MMS, email, instant messaging and social networking have been central to the development of the phone and the WP7 operating system, ensuring that Optimus 7 owners can use their smartphone for any number of sundry tasks that were once the sole domain of the family PC.
What is particularly impressive about the LG Optimus 7 is the internal memory of 16GB. This affords great flexibility to record even lengthy video and save plenty of songs and photographs to the device without the need to download them elsewhere to free up your smartphone memory. Files can be transferred, however, in a number of easy ways, including Bluetooth and via a MicroUSB slot.
As you would expect with a smartphone, the Optimus 7 comes with 3G and Wi-Fi support as well as a fully functioning GPRS system and EDGE technology.
What really marks the Optimus 7 out from the rest however is looks. The sleek and stylish design of the handset means that it is really does look a cut above the rest of the competitors in the division and indeed the new WP7 platform could not look any better against the backdrop of this hugely functional, powerful, advanced and aesthetically pleasing smartphone.
