FTA receivers offer better service than DISH Network and DirecTV

Free-to-Air (FTA) receivers are satellite TV receivers that receive unencrypted broadcasts. With an FTA Receiver you can view various satellite channels in the United States, Canada and beyond.
In addition to general programming, FTA receivers allow you to receive educational and Christian-based programming. Most FTA channels contain programming this is generated by network television stations.
While FTA signals are limited to a fairly limited transmission range, they are often an excellent option for rural residents to obtain a free yet fairly reliable source of television without having to subscribe to paid TV options.
FTA receivers are similar to those offered by DISH Network and DirecTV. However, they don't require a smartcard or decryption module because they are designed to only pick-up and display unencrypted transmissions. As a result, FTA Receivers are open to privacy because broadcasters do not have any control over the receivers themselves.
There are 63 satellites in orbit over the Americas, 57 over Europe and a further 64 over Asia. The FTA receivers conduct a "blind" scan to see what channels are available on the frequencies on which those satellites broadcast.
After a scan has been completed, the FTA receiver can sort the channels in a number of ways: alphabetically, by satellite, encoded or not, etc. There is also third party software available that enables the FTA Receiver to obtain a channel's station ID so the viewer knows which station it is. Newer models also enable the user to name and save channels on the receiver in a format of their choosing. This makes using an FTA receiver as easy as using a basic television set.
FTA receivers have many more features and options, including HDTV, DVR, program guides, and more. They offer an excellent alternative to paid TV and have grown in popularity in recent years.
