Fishing has been in practice ever since man came to this planet we live in. For many 'to fish, is to eat'; it meets 16% of the world's totally protein. Today 90 million tonnes of fish are caught in the oceans each year.

The compressed dead bodies of the sea creatures over the years have made huge oil reserves. It is interesting to note that over one fifth of earth's oil demand is being met through oil taken out of the oceans. Norway is one of the biggest offshore oil producers.
The sea is also not just a large store of oil reserves that can be used to generate power; the tides can be used to meet the earth's energy needs too. The world's first energy plant was built in France in River Rance. Tidal energy is eco-friendly and a renewable source of energy that does not harm the environment nor deplete earth's resources.
We obtain massive amounts of salts from the sea apart from the salt mines found on land. Almost 66 million tonnes are extracted each year. This amount could make pyramids thrice the size found in Egypt.
Icebergs on the ocean are huge reserves of freshwater that can meet the drinking water crisis. They can be towed away by boats very easily. Melting can be prevented by wrapping them in huge layers of plastic.
