Dawlish Warren is a stretch of sandy coastline which extends for three miles north towards the estuary of the River Exe, where you are bound to receive a warm welcome. It is safe to swim at these beaches. This is the home to spectacular beaches. The main industry in this area is still tourism during spring and summer seasons.
The eighteenth century saw the town as a small fishing village, with seas that supplied an abundance of shellfish, herring and mackerel. There were abundant orchards and production of cider.
A railway line connects to Exeter, Abbot and Newton. Most of this runs along the coastline. Several tunnels are constructed through cliffs. Some of these tunnels were not planned. Yet, this railway journey is one of the most spectacular in Britain.
Some of the camping sites are within walking distance of Blue Flag beaches. The Warren has received thus status for more than nine years running. Experienced lifeguards are on hand during the summer season, which makes for a fun and save day of sunshine. Some offer discount vouchers for local attractions and some have entertainment at hand. Entertainment includes top wining and dining. They cater to old and young alike and you will find everything you can think of in the line of relaxation and recreation.
Both Jane Austin and Charles Dickens featured the town in their novels. It has become the place favored by aristocracy. Many British films and Victorian dramas have used it as a location for filming in more recent years.
