Perhaps your interest lies in creating your own designs on T-shirts. For this, you are aware that your design quality must be of the highest standard. There are several printing processes that will give you the kind of feel and look on your T-shirts as you envisaged. Here are some of the most popularly used T-shirt printing processes used these days:
Screen printing: One of the oldest, cheapest and most popular T-shirt printing processes, screen printing does not involve use of any particular equipment involved. All you use is a wooden or aluminum stencil which is placed on the T-shirt on which the design is to be done. Its only disadvantage is that one screen can be used only for one color. In order to transfer the design onto the T-shirt, you need to use paints or inks through the stencil. One person can set up his small unit and deliver about 200 T-shirts a day.
Direct to garment printing (DTG): This is a method of fabric printing by which an image is printed directly onto the T-shirt by a modified kind of inkjet printer. Here, the ink is printed onto the garment, thereby offering a greater level of flexibility by way of color variation and time taken than screen printing.
Heat transfer printing: This T-shirt printing process involves the transfer of heat and pressure as a result of which ink is transferred on a sheet of carrier paper to the T-shirt. This can be ironed on to the carrier paper for some time until the ink can be seen on the T- shirt.
Hand painting and airbrushing: These two methods can be used in combination with screen printing to give special effects or to add artistic value to the pattern.
Appliqu?s and patches: As an alternative to embroidery, appliqu?s and patches are used on T-shirts extensively. Usually, appliqu?s are embroidered and include decorative material, rhinestones and metal pieces.
Digital printing: This T-shirt printing process has the advantage of using any number of colors but lacks a wide screen printing set-up process, thus making it best for smaller orders of T-shirts.
Puff ink printing: This is yet another popular method of T-shirt printing. It gives a special effect on T-shirts and is usually used in the design of custom T-shirts. The process works like this: the ink used here puffs up after it dries at the end of the printing process. It is different because it adds a 3-D effect on the T-shirt and is very popular.
Tie-and-dye: This is popular among those people who like to wear bright designs on their T-shirts. By using the tye-and-dye process of T-shirt printing, you can get beautiful colors and amazing patterns. One amazing thing about these patterns is that each tie-and-dye T-shirt is unique, in fact, it?s one of a kind.
Here are several ways of T-shirt printing which you can make and sell. Where you can sell them and for how much are things you need to determine on your own, depending on where you live and your local market.
