Human aesthetics is such that they are instantly drawn to things that are unique and beautiful, and a promotional pen definitely falls within this category.
There is a school of thought that modern technology is making pens and pencils so redundant that they will soon end up as objects of display in museums. This is difficult to accept when you see the variety of promotional pens and pencils that companies design and distribute to potential customers, and the enthusiasm with which people accept it. Agreed, we do not use a pen these days to write letters or articles or make notes, to the extent that we used to do during olden days, because computers and mobiles take care of most of our writing needs. But there is hardly a woman who does not carry a pen in her handbag or a man who does not carry one in his pocket or brief case. And because they use it rarely these days, when they do use it, they would like it to be lovely objects that people will admire. And the beautiful promotional pens that companies give out satisfy this need perfectly well.
However much we use computers, there is no office table or study table without a couple of pens on it. Nor is there a landline telephone without a pen and pad beside it. These are places which people always choose to maintain spick and span and beautiful, and curiously shaped promotional pens will look absolutely good in these spaces. In fact many people keep a pen near a computer also, and there too a star-shaped or bird-shaped promotional pen will look much better than a drab black ball point. Small children, when they are getting initiated into the world of learning, are often reluctant to do their homework. They have to be coaxed into it with various sops. One of the sops that can be used is funny-shaped pens and pencils. Parents or grandparents who have got at their disposal animal-shaped or airplane-shaped promotional pens can effectively use it to coax the kiddies into doing their lessons.
Electronic signature has come into existence, but signing is something that is still done in most places by a pen. Banks will have a pen at all their counters. They can use their own promotional pen at the counters, or that of another company or organization that they want to promote. Pens are also required at check-out counters of supermarkets and shops. This is an important digital era requirement because when you are paying with a credit card you have got to put your signature there. It is an ideal place to use promotional pens. People will appreciate the beautifully shaped promotional pen, and since lots of people will pass through these counters, most will notice the unique pen and the name of the company on that pen. It is true that advancing technology has reduced the requirement of pens. But promotional pens still retain their pride of place in many arenas.
