LED deck lights are becoming quite popular these days and are used for emergency vehicles such as highway patrol cars. LED deck lighting has a wide variety of benefits, the most significant being the flexibility of mounting close to the rear deck, rear window or adjacent to the windshield. The SAE rated deck lights are usually compact and efficient weighing less than 10 lbs and powered by a 12V DC power supply. The deck lights are sleek and are designed with rugged low profile. The thickness of the lighting equipment is less than 2 inches. Deck and dash lights either have dozens of 1 Watt LEDs or a few 4-Watt LEDs which are far more powerful. The tough construction of these deck lights makes them ideal for heavy duty usage.
There are some LED deck lights which can operate on dual voltage of 12 and 24V DC. The slim deck lights have Gen III LEDs which are known for the implementation of total internal reflection that makes the lighting even more effective. Compact and efficient LED deck lighting is designed for the perfect size with mounting options for flat and curved surfaces. Clear outer lenses are used to enhance the lighting. In some cases, even colored lenses are used for additional effect. Deck lights usually come with split segments so that additional flashing effects can be created between pairs of colors. The deck lights are designed to provide high performance at low cost and low current consumption.
LED deck lights mostly make use of 5mm LEDs and come in ABS housing along with swivel mount brackets and suction cups. These deck lights don't need any external flasher as they have built in flash patterns that can easily be operated using pattern selection switches. Scan Lock flash pattern selection mechanism is used. Split models can provide alternate flashing and blinking. The LED deck lighting can operate in both steady burn as well as flashing modes. Some deck lights even come with optional bail brackets that can provide some leeway when height and orientation adjustability is required. Most common color combinations used include amber and red, red and blue and blue and white. These deck lights are available with no hassle 5 year warranty, sometimes covering the super bright LEDs provided.
LED deck lights also come with black molded hood made of composite nylon or polycarbonate for shielding those inside the vehicle from the flashing lights. The housing and the hood are designed to resist heavy duty usage and high impact. Non-fluted lenses are used along with extra wide angle domes to greatly enhance the visibility. Sometimes, LED deck lighting can actually be customized in mounting design for specific vehicles. In some cases, the deck lights, dash lights and visor lights come with an adhesive hook and loop pads for secure mounting. The housing and base are sturdy enough to protect the LEDs from vibration and moisture. Power cords and shielded cables are provided along with the kit for installing the deck lights easily.
