It has since been used to make electrical posts, boxes, conduits and electrical tapes. It also has sound absorption properties and has been used for sound proofing. Another important feature of fiberglass is its ability to reinforce the natural strength of other construction materials in the manufacture of fabrics, athletic equipment like fishing rods and surfboards, the body of automobiles, roofing and furniture among a hundred other things.
Fiberglass has such ideal qualities that make it useful in many product applications. It is because of this reason that fiberglass construction supersedes other types of construction. One main advantage with fiberglass is that it offers a high degree of design flexibility. The fact that it can be molded, tooled and manufactured in varying ways is what lends it favorable with manufacturers. Then there is also the advantage of affordability. It is relatively economical to work with fiberglass than with other materials. Fiberglass is known for its property of having a higher surface area to weight ratio. Other good points of fiberglass are that it is light in weight, durable and non-corrosive. It also has a higher resistance to extreme environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, ultra-violet light and chemical acids. Another reason why manufacturers favor fiberglass is because it can be produced in diverse textures, finishes and colors depending on the requirement.
It is because of all these advantages that a lot of manufacturers want to go in for fiberglass construction. This is particularly true for those in the boat building industry. This is because it has been found that fiberglass contributes in a major way in building high-quality boats which are strong and durable. With the recent developments in technology of producing fiberglass, it has become a preferred choice of material for most boat manufacturers to build solid and laminated fiberglass hulls for boats and yachts.
