SEO or Search Engine Optimization is one of the most important terms in modern times. SEO is critical to the success of a website. SEO is the process of developing a strategy in order to rank high in search engines like Google in order to bring in traffic. It is about optimizing your website and building links off site. Understanding SEO and its importance is important especially for owners of websites and those in the business of internet marketing.
You can split Search Engine optimization into two parts: Internal SEO and External SEO. Each requires different things but at the end of the day, the most important thing you can do (and Ill say this frequently) for SEO is to get links to your website. Adobe Ranks #1 but click here isnt even on the page. Thats because most people link to them with some variation of if you want an adobe product, click here. That power is the same reason why George Bush showed up for the search miserable failure.
SEO starts at home. This means making your site constructed so that search engines can easily crawl and index your site. That was why I said before from the moment you create your blog you need to focus on SEO. It is really hard and complicated and time consuming to go back and rework your whole site when you could have optimized it from the start. You need to put the keywords (or words you want to be ranked for) in your domain name, page title, and content. All of this helps google learn what your website is about so you can rank for that.
The latest buzz in SEO is that content is king. More the information content on a web page, better the chances of it being ranked higher on search engines. That's why one can find website owners looking furiously for articles and web content online. However, remember that content is only half of the equation. Without good links to your website, search engines won't find you and you won't rank in them. Concentrate most of your effort on building links and you will find you will rank very high.
Quantity (and quality) of who links to you is important but who links to the people who links to you also counts too. Dont get caught up in trying to see who links to who just know that it counts and focus on getting quality links to your site (as well as quantity). When a web page gets linked with anchor text they are trying to rank for, it will help them to move up in Googles rankings. However, you always want to vary your links. If you have 100 links and all of them say the same thing, it looks like you are manipulating the search engines. Logic would say that an infinite number of unconnected people would use a variety of different anchor texts to link to your site.
Search Engine Optimization is not a lot of work but it is very time consuming. There are a lot of things you need to do and a lot of factors you need to think about in order to rank high in search results. Follow the tips and advice here to help ensure your site is perfectly aligned so that it keeps moving up to the number one spot and gets more and more visitors.
