This optimisation tip was stumbled upon by accident.I was helping to promote an affiliate product, and in doing so, I created a Squidoo lens for that product to help with promoting the product. I added some click analysis to the URL so I could monitor progress. A few hours later, whilst checking my analytics, I noticed that 3 sales had already come through this Squidoo lens. This came as a very pleasant surprise.
Curious to see what was happening, I stopped what I was doing and went to my Squidoo account to see what was had transpired. I looked at the analytics for that lens, only to discovered that an impressive 198 visitors had come to my lens in those few short hours.
So, the big question, how did this happen? I figured it out, I had done one thing differently for this lens.
This one important difference is all around tag pages, which can be found on both Squidoo and Hubpages - this tip can be used for both sites. If you go to Squidoo or HubPages and click on a tag you'll see what I mean by a tag page. These pages have a list of all the Squidoo lenses or HubPages hubs that use that tag. A tag can be thought of as a keyword or search term which quite succinctly describes what a lens or hub is all about.
Many tag pages on both HubPages and Squidoo get highly ranked by Google. It isn't unheard for a Google Page Rank of 6 to be attained by these tag pages - this usually means that they get a first page ranking for their tag or keyword.
The trick is to associate your hub or lens with those that are already ranking highly on those tag pages. This is applicable to both sites, and adding those tag pages to your own page increases your ranking. The higher your ranking, the higher up that tag page you hub or lens will be. Its as simple as that - the higher up those pages you are, the more traffic you will get.
